October 2. I am glad to say that the lYelsh of Pittsburg[hl like everT other Welsh person
throughout the country has heard the voice ealling to us from the Old Country to help those who are suffering from the horrible war going on these days on the Continent of Europe. A committee from the St David's Society has taken the matter in hand and has decided to hold a grand concert in the Exposition lrall on November 7h with everyone giving their assistance without payment so there will be a fair sum to send to those who arc suffering greatly because of the pride and ambition of [Kaiserl Will of Germany who want to rule the world. The Treasurer of the fund is J. R. Jones of City Deposit Bank, Pitbburg[h], Pa. No one need fear sending money into the care of J. R. Ee is one of the most respected lYelshmen and is trusted by us. The Chatham St Sunday school has contributed nobly according to their numbers, and many others are ready to contribute.
It is said that the Irish in Boston have collected $20,000 in a week. What do the Welsh say[?] That is a mark for us to aim for. Well, it is our heartfelt wish that this warm come to an end soon and that the pigs go the way of the Gadara pigs of long ago--drown in the sea.
The cheerfrrl Welshman, D. Lloyd Jones, has been ill for some t'me, and his hundreds of friends in the city feel bad because of that. D. Lloyd has had excellent health for years until now and he has been very prominent in every Welsh activity here since he was a boy. He has also been a Treasurer for T. C. Jenkins and sons for over fort5r years, and it is said that millions of his master's dollars have gone through his hands without a cent ever being lost. May he continue to be of comfort to his family and to the church for many years to come.
The Welsh in this crty are becoming fewer from year to year. This week, the fervent old Welshman, Wm. A. Jenkins of South Side, died at the age of 65. He had a long illness he suffered quietly until the end. A short time ago his excellent daughter was buried, and we syrrpathize with Mrs. Jenkins and the children. Dr. Nicholas was also buried some time ago. He was one of the most faithful Welshmen and is a grcat loss. Serving at the two burials was W. R. Griffiths. Peace to the ashes of the departed and health to those who suffer.
